TEACHING ARTIST STATEMENT:
With a BA in studio art (along with a fine art career focused in oil paint), over 10 years as a performing artist and 20+ years in gymnastics/acrobatics, my teaching style is a fusion these disciplines. Practice and teaching within the arts has allowed me to explore the elements of expression, visually as well as through my body. On the other hand, thanks to the training and instruction of gymnastics, acrobatics and dance, I have developed a strong knowledge of the structure, dedication and the hard work involved within developing the body-mind. As a result, the balance between a student's unique expression and their willingness to put in the work is of great importance to me as a teacher, no matter the class. I offer classes to dancers learning creative process, acrobatic and inversion techniques and practice, Modern Dance, as well as body centered awareness, movement and expression. I also offer dance instruction to gymnasts in technique, movement quality and choreography. Finally, as a teacher of studio art, I offer technical instruction with an emphasis on developing a students unique creative voice and expression. My goal as a teaching artist is to research and develop more opportunities of classes in which I can combine multiple disciplines into a fusion of creative expression for individuals and communities. On this page I share a few of my experiences that have impacted my growth as a teacher...
